Narrator (Broken)

Why is my soul so broken?

“A man like me is valuable, or so I found. In war, neither side wishes to hurt me. They keep me safe, saving me for the peace, for the future. They picture me in their employ. The powerful hear of me and wish me by their sides, healing their men. Saving their sons. Reaching inside their souls for the path back to humanity after so much killing.

“A man like me is…venerated. For the things I can do. My touch isn’t only the touch of a healer. It is more. More than we have easy words for in our tongue.

“I will reshape you. Broken as you may be. Fractured as you seem, each of your thousand tiny splinters refusing to coalesce back into that thing we call a man. Let me hold you, and have your spirit return to you. Experience the gulp as it finds you – purest oxygen, purest life, flowing back into your lungs and your heart. I hold you against my chest as it fills you once more with what has been lost. Bring you back from death. Bring you back to humanity.

“Hold me. Feel my warmth. Let my fingers trace the ways and the runes. The forgotten knowledge. The pathways to purpose.

“Let me hold you, until you are whole.

“This is how the world was, on the day my story begins.”
