Tiello. And Tiyallo

No good deed goes unpunished.

“I’ve taken his name, or a version of it, for luck. From Tiello the soldier to Tiyallo the merchant isn’t such a big step. The journey has been via small coastal ports. At each one I’ve invested in change, using my new wealth in amounts quite discreet to become that successful merchant, Tiyallo: I try it on my tongue. Retiring to a life of ease, in the story I quietly develop. In the depths of night I test my memory for my own brand new past. And in mere weeks, I tread the gangplank down to a new dock, wearing what a man of discreet wealth wisely spent wears. Bayehren awaits, laid out at my feet in all its stinking vivacity.

“Slide quietly into shadow. That must be my plan. Instead, and within a month, I will buy The Pearl Garden. I despair, utterly despair of this thread of impetuosity that runs within my nature.”
